Experiment Data Base program (v. 1.40.17) > Advanced database topics

Modifying measurement types

It is possible to modify existing measurement types, both built-in and user-defined. One can modify all parameters of any user-defined type and only some of parameters for standard, built-in ones. First, as was mentioned above, it is possible to change order of parameters. Second, any number (within limits described previously) of additional, user parameters may be added to existing type. These extra, user-defined parameters added to standard type may then be freely modified, as required.

If user-defined parameters are defined as editable, user can modify their value manually for each measurement of given type already stored in the data base; see section describing measurement form above for additional information. Their values can be then used for data analysis and presentation. There is no built-in support for these extra parameters in the measurement program of the system, however. Of course it is possible to create a special program that will manipulate measurement files, creating additional parameter entries for standard types or whole parameter sections for new, user-defined measurement types.
