The Vertical bar enables the amplitude of the transient to be visualised as an overlay on the dynamic input range of the system. This range is defined by the current settings of the signal source (capacitance) meter range and full-scale output voltage, and by the settings of the acquisition board (A/D converter): input voltage, gain and resolution. The signal meter range and the gain of the acquisition board can be changed from the program. Other parameters are configured by editing the Lap_sys.ini file. NOTE: For the UMIST card the gain cannot be changed and is permanently set to 1. If the Boonton capacitance meter or the National Instrument card are used the vertical bar allows a quick check whether the meter sensitivity and compensation, and the converter gain are set properly for the given level of signal.
