3.3.1 Data file name, series, pattern, and path

In the Name text box in the Sample folder one give a name to the currently measured signal transient. This name is copied to the Save As. menu and to the Save data button on the main toolbar provided this option is enabled on the Customise form.

NOTE: Although the Laplace Signal Processing system complies with Windows 95/XP standards, there are some restrictions for characters used in the file names, namely, some special characters, e.g. a space, are not allowed. This is because the file names are used for file manipulations performed by the Experiment Data Base program and the RExeTris program.

The Data Series allows the first characters in the file name to be defined in order to organise the measurement results and corresponding spectra files in groups. These characters are used for defining the beginning of the data or configuration file name when these files are read or stored. The Data Series is also used for the current Notes File.

The Pattern is an extension of the Series, as it allows the list of files displayed in the Read Data From dialogue to be narrowed down. The Pattern allows the use of MS DOS wildcard characters (* and ?). The Pattern is also copied to the Pattern text box on the Spectrum folder. The Pattern on this folder is used to find data files in the current data directory, which have no corresponding spectrum file. The Pattern is also used on the Script form for manipulation with configuration files.
